Can I spiralize this banana?

On an impulse, I bought a spiralizer today. Last week at a vegan restaurant I had raw zucchini noodles with raw tomato sauce and herbs. It was so tasty I haven't been able to stop thinking about it.

So when, while browsing at Aldi I saw a spiralizer, I snatched it. Usually I do my due research before purchasing kitchen gadgets. It took me months to buy my blender, and I still haven't settled on an immersion blender because I feel like I haven't done enough research yet to justify spending the $15.

This time I made an impulse purchase (I admit I was a little hungry at the time, and thinking about dinner).

As soon as I put the spiralizer in my car, I dashed over to Kroger to buy some out of season zucchini.

For dinner I made zucchini noodles, lightly cooked in olive oil with half an onion and garlic. Low cal, gluten free, but satisfying, I recommend this pasta substitute.

I'm a firm believer that the way vegetables are cut  changes the flavor, and these noodles reinforced this idea. The zucchini mild and the flavor was everything I love about summer squash, without the bitterness that sometimes come through when I just chop and sauté it.

I also used my new gadget to spiralize raw beets. I tossed the beets with lettuce, spinach, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. I topped this salad with chopped orange slices.

While it was a very simple meal, I'm excited at the possibilities the spiralizer opens in my kitchen. I have an intense urge to spiralize everything.

I don't plan to buy more out of season zucchini, but once summer comes and it hits the farmers markets (and hopefully my own garden) I plan to spiralize it all. Hopefully enough to freeze for use in the off-seasons. With a good sauce and tossed with some other fresh veggies, it would be a delicious and simple meal.

Do you have a spiralizer? Or have you eaten spiralized foods? Please share ideas and recipes!
